Remote help from $25 · Your own media only · Quoted upfront for full setups

A media server should just work. In practice the same few things go wrong: video buffers because the server is transcoding on the CPU, a library is missing half your films because of file naming or permissions, or the server works at home and not away from it. These are well-known problems with well-known fixes.

We fix them remotely over a screen-sharing session, on a NAS, a mini PC, a Docker host or a spare computer. Jellyfin and Plex are for your own media, such as home videos, ripped discs and files you have bought. We do not help with piracy.

What we handle

Media Server Problems We Fix

Buffering and stuttering playback

Usually the server is transcoding in software, the network is the limit, or the client does not support the file format. We find which in a few minutes by checking the playback session.

Hardware transcoding not working

Intel Quick Sync, NVIDIA or AMD acceleration that does not turn on, often because the graphics device is not passed to Docker or a user lacks permission.

Libraries missing movies or shows

Wrong folder structure or file names, permission errors on the media folder, or metadata matching the wrong title.

Cannot connect from outside the house

Port forwarding that fails, double NAT, a reverse proxy set up wrongly, or remote streaming left off. We use a safer approach such as Tailscale where it fits.

Setting up on TrueNAS, ZimaOS or Docker

Installing Jellyfin or Plex as an app, giving it the right access to your media, and keeping it updated.

Users, kids' profiles and parental limits

Separate accounts, libraries and rating limits so family members see the right content.

Subtitles, audio tracks and 4K or HDR problems

Wrong audio, subtitles burned in and forcing a transcode, or HDR looking washed out on a client.

Moving to Jellyfin or Plex from another system

Migrating your libraries and watch history where possible, without re-organising your files.

Which one?

Jellyfin or Plex?

Jellyfin is free and open source, with no account needed and no premium paywall for core features. Plex has polished apps and easy remote sharing, with some features behind a paid pass.

If you are not sure, tell us what devices you watch on and who else will use it. We will recommend one, and we are happy to set up either.

Why it buffers

Most Buffering Comes From Transcoding

When a device cannot play a file as it is, the server has to convert it on the fly, which is called transcoding. On a weak CPU this causes constant buffering. The fix is either hardware transcoding, a client that plays the file directly, or files in a format your devices support.

Remote viewing also depends on your internet upload speed, which at home is usually much slower than your download speed. We check the numbers and set sensible limits for remote streaming.

How it works

From First Message to Fixed

  1. Step 1: Tell us what it does

The server software, where it runs, which device is buffering or failing, and what you see.

  2. Step 2: Check the session and settings

We look at what is actually happening during playback and which setting or permission is wrong.

  3. Step 3: Fix and test

Fixed remotely and tested on your own devices, including from outside your home network.

Common questions

Jellyfin and Plex Questions FAQs

Why does Jellyfin keep buffering?

The most common cause is transcoding on the CPU. Check the Dashboard for the playing session: if it says transcode and not direct play, the server is converting the video. Fixes are hardware acceleration, a client that supports the format, or a lower bitrate. We can find the cause in a remote session.

How do I get Jellyfin hardware acceleration working?

It needs a supported GPU, the right option under Dashboard, Playback, Transcoding, and, on Docker, the graphics device passed into the container. Permissions on that device are a common reason it silently fails. We set it up and test a real transcode.

How do I watch Jellyfin or Plex outside my home?

Either port forwarding, which can expose the server, or a private network like Tailscale, which is safer. Many connections also fail because of double NAT. We set up the option that suits you.

Why is my library missing movies?

Usually file naming or folder layout, permissions on the media folder, or a wrong library type. We check the scan log and fix the cause.

Do you help with Plex and Jellyfin on a NAS?

Yes, including TrueNAS, ZimaOS, Synology and a Docker host or mini PC.

Do you set up pirated media?

No. We only help with media you own.
